City Manager

Mike Kennerson City manager

Born in 1949 at El Centro, California.  Parents are George W. Kennerson (EL Centro, CA) and Lillian F. Stacy (Hodgens, OK).  Paternal grandparents were George A. Kennerson (Mill Valley, CA) and May Winkler (Mill Valley, CA). Maternal grandparents were James Sherman Stacy (Hodgens, OK) and Lona Luman (Mounthome, AR)

After graduation from high school in EL Centro, CA, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970 and served for 30 years and 11 months.  Enlisted service consisted of 11 years as an Electronics Technician, advancing from Airman (E-1) to Senior Chief (E-8) with tours at the following locations: Naples, Italy; Jacksonville, FL; and Rota, Spain.  I received a commission and served for 19 Years as a Maintenance Officer, advancing from Ensign (O-1) to Commander (O-5) with tours at the following locations: Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; Norfolk, Virginia; USS Independence (CV-62); Mayport, FL; USS Forrestal (CV-59); Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Jacksonville, Fl. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from New Hampshire College, after attended night classes at various locations while in the U.S. Navy.

My civic Involvement includes: Commander of American Legion Post 0188; Member of Heavener Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 784; Quartermaster of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8403; Member of the Poteau Valley Improvement Authority (PVIA) Board, serves on Personnel and Wister Water Shed Committee; Served as Secretary of the Talimena Scenic Drive Association, assisted with planning to achieve Scenic-By-Way status for drive; Member of Heavener Friends of the Heavener Public Library; Member of the Heavener Chamber of Commerce; In 2002 was one of five to be presented with a Human Rights Award during the Oklahoma Human Rights Commission’s 18th annual ceremony for efforts toward removing friction, eliminating discrimination, and promoting unity and understanding among all the people of Oklahoma; in April 2010, received Special Project Award from Oklahoma Library Association for expansion of the Heavener Public Library
