Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

On June 18th 2011, at the 90th Annual Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) State Convention held at the Biltmore Hotel in Oklahoma City, Heavener Police Officer Mary King was presented the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year certificate, plaque and a check for $100.

Officer King has also been recognized by the Oklahoma Gang and Investigator’s Association in her achievement of this award.

Officer King serves as the community’s School Resource Officer (SRO) and Patrolman. She was specifically selected for this position due to her superior performance and unique ability to effectively communicate with juveniles. She provides traffic safety monitoring around the schools and along bus routes within the city, patrols hallways, trains and counsels students on a range of subjects. Her efforts resulted in reduced truancy, violence on or near school campus, incidences of drug or drug related offenses; and increased cooperation between students, parents, faculty, and law enforcement officers. Her efforts continue to make the City of Heavener, LeFlore County, and our state a safer place to live and raise a family. We extend to her a hearty Well Done!
